Fuel Surcharges Cut by Qantas as Result of Lower Oil Prices

Australia's top airline, Qantas Airways Ltd have said it will cut its fuel surcharges on international flights and cut domestic fares in response to recent falls in oil and jet fuel prices.

The airline said on Wednesday it would cut fuel surcharges by between 7% and 9.5% and cut domestic fares by 2-3%.

Executive general manager John Borghetti said at current oil prices, even after hedging and fuel saving steps, Qantas's fuel bill this year would still be A$1.3 billion ($930 million) higher than in the 2008 financial year.
