OOO LUKOIL-West Siberia and Tehinformservis (TIS), Weatherford Drilling Services entity in Russia, successfully performed the first drilling operation using a 4 ¾-in. Revolution Rotary Steerable System (RSS) and TripleCombo LWD suite while a horizontal well drilling on Yuzhno-Vyintoyskoe field.

Innovation policy is one of the key development elements for LUKOIL. Due to the permanent implementation of advanced technologies LUKOIL-West Siberia produced more than 44 mln tons of oil in 2011.   Performing operations together with Weatherford, 3,195 - 3,689 m interval was drilled using a 5 1/8” bit. Maximum ROP achieved is 35 m per hour. The borehole was drilled in the terrigenous dissected formation in accordance with the planned profile within 12 inch tolerance.    Weatherford’s Revolution RSS, the first slim-hole rotary steerable system, utilizes point-the-bit technology to improve the wellbore quality and the drill bit life. The system’s short and compact design simplifies the technology of rotary steerable drilling and allows the most important logging measurements to be made closer to the bit. A sensor distance to the bit for MWD was 2 meters, and for LWD tool – 6 meters.   Cooperation of both companies’ specialists allowed to perform all work scope according to the planned schedule and with no extra costs, and proved high reliability and excellent performance of Weatherford RSSs in complicated geological conditions of Yuzhno-Vyintoyskoe field. ______ OOO LUKOIL-West Siberia is a Holding entity, and an integral part of the Oil Company LUKOIL. The enterprise operates in the area covering Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Areas in Tyumen Region.
