On August 21, the President of JSOC Bashneft Alexander Korsik, the Company’s First Vice-President Mikhail Stavskiy and the Governor of the Nenets Autonomous District Igor Fyodorov visited the R. Trebs oilfield and inspected the results of emergency response activities implemented after the oil spill on April 20, which happened in the course of re-entering exploration well No.11 (Varknavskaya).
At the work meeting held at the R. Trebs oilfield senior managers of Bashneft and the general director of LLC Bashneft-Polyus Vitaly Litvinenko informed the Governor and representatives of the district administration that emergency response activities had been completed. With the help of special organizations, the Company succeeded in completing all the planned activities ahead of schedule. These included measures aimed at cleaning up the area near the well, eliminating the residual contamination with the use of sorbents and technologies recommended by the Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service, and subsequent land restoration.
“Due to a close cooperation of the Company’s departments, contractors, the officials of the Nenets Autonomous District and specialized agencies we managed to rapidly gain control over the situation and to successfully implement the oil spill response plan, thus minimizing the negative environmental impact,” stated the President of JSOC Bashneft Alexander Korsik. “The Company has developed and put in place an accident prevention programme.”
“From the first the district’s governing bodies adopted a pragmatic approach to the situation. We have concealed nothing and, at the same time, we demanded that the Company management make every effort to eliminate the consequences of the spill,” said the Governor of the Nenets Autonomous District Igor Fyodorov. “We monitored the implementation of emergency response activities at the oilfield with great attention and we can ascertain that Bashneft
carried them out very promptly and efficiently. The oilfield where the accident had occurred has been fully rehabilitated. We are satisfied with the Company’s high level of professionalism which it demonstrated in this situation”.
