Drillstem testing in northern Brazil’s onshore Solimões Basin shows that it holds one of the country’s largest potentials for natural gas, HRT Participações em Petróleo said yesterday.
The company said the well is one of the best gas wells ever drilled and tested onshore Brazil, and the results reflect a large gas potential in the basin.
The prospect is in the southwestern portion of the field and is part of a geological structure that covers an area of about 56 km² and is estimated to hold between 10 Bcm and 32 Bcm of recoverable gas.
The test was carried out last week by HRT’s Oil and Gas Exploração e Produção de Petróleo in the Juruá formation reservoir with a net pay zone of 36.4 m. A hydrocarbon interval from 2769.6 m to 2794.4 m was opened for testing and showed excellent flow characteristics through a vertical well, the company said. The well reached a stable production rate of natural gas at 18.01 MMcf/D.
HRT is the operator of 21 blocks in the basin, which it is exploring in cooperation with Russia’s TNK-Brasil.
