Pemex has made its second discovery since August of light crude in the deep waters of Gulf of Mexico, Reuters reported.
Estimated proven, probable, and possible (3P) reserves from the discovery well Supremus 1 are between 75 million and 125 million bbl of crude. The well is 250 km east of Matamoros, about 1100 m beneath the seabed in water depths of about 2900 m.
The previous find, announced on 29 August at the Trion 1 discovery well, had estimated 3P reserves of up to 400 million bbl of crude. The well is about 177 km off the coast of northern Mexico’s Tamaulipas in the Perdido area of the gulf.
