LUKOIL & Weatherford Performed Casing Running Operations At Korchagin Field In Record-Breaking Time

Running operations of 406 mm (16”) and 273 mm (10 ¾”) casings to total depth of 1,426 m and 3,130 m, respectively, were performed in record-breaking time in a well № 117 of a field n. a. Yu. Korchagin explored by LUKOIL. Application of Weatherford OverDrive™ TD-650M system and well-coordinated work of both companies’ personnel while casing running made it possible.

Running operations of 406 mm (16”) and 273 mm (10 ¾”) casings to total depth of 1,426 m and 3,130 m, respectively, were performed in record-breaking time in a well № 117 of a field n. a. Yu. Korchagin explored by LUKOIL. Application of Weatherford OverDrive™ TD-650M system and well-coordinated work of both companies’ personnel while casing running made it possible.

 

The planned depth of 273 mm (10 ¾”) production string running was 3,130 m with 1,565 m horizontal  displacement and 90° deviation angle. In spite of the hole problems faced while running operations, the crew managed to set the casing to target depth using circulating within well’s difficult intervals. 406-mm casing was run to 1,426-m depth.

 

At Yu. Korchagin field OverDrive system enabled increase by 73% in running speed of 406 mm (16”) casing, and by 21% - of 273 mm (10 ¾”) casing. Time saving amounted 40% and 21%, respectively, and total economy was equal to 14.5 hours in absolute terms. 

 

OverDrive™ TD-650M system fully replaces traditional equipment for casing running and considerably extends the application range of top drive, allowing not only drill pipes but also casing making up and rotating. Remote control of the system contributes to fewer personnel engaged in handling equipment, and eliminates the necessity of the derrick man. OverDrive system application allows performing such synchronistic operations as mud circulation, reciprocation and casing rotation and snubbing. Starting circulation immediately after making up of another pipe and running casing while circulating significantly reduces the possibility of differential sticking. All these advantages essentially increase chances of successful casing setting to the planned depth even in high-deviated wells.
