On September 26, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev received a UK delegation represented by the Prime Minister`s Trade Envoy, member of the House of Lords, Lord Risby, Lord Lexden, Lord St. John and other officials.
Welcoming the guests, Mr. Abdullayev pointed out the developing relations between Azerbaijan and the UK and significance of cooperation in the energy sector in this development. Mentioning his speech at the UK House of Lords last November, SOCAR President noted the importance of mutual visits, meetings and exchange of views in the expansion of bilateral relations.
Appreciating the rapid development in Azerbaijan, the UK Prime Minister`s Trade Envoy Lord Risby thanked for hospitality. Mentioning the reception by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, noted the importance of discussed issues during the meeting, and expressed assurance in further development between the two countries. Afterwards, he introduced delegation members to SOCAR President.
In turn, Mr. Abdullayev spoke about socio-economic development of Azerbaijan, role of petroleum sector in this development, reputable position among the gas exporting countries, regional and international projects of SOCAR, and its achievements. Noting the contributions of Azerbaijan to European energy security as a natural gas source, SOCAR President said transport route for transportation of gas volumes to be produced within Shah Deniz - 2 Project had already been selected, and agreements had been signed in this regard. Further, touching upon the long-term successful cooperation between SOCAR and bp, Mr. Abdullayev appreciated the importance of this cooperation and spoke about bilateral relations between the two countries.
