SOCAR Department of Ecology held an educational event “April 22nd- Earth Day” for the students of School-Lyceum Complex of Baku Slavic University to contribute to the education of children in the spirit of environment protection, love of country and effective use of natural resources and their awareness of environmental problems.

The participants of the event got detailed information about the Earth Day and interesting statistics and saw an art exhibition dedicated to the environment protection. The students set plants brought by the Department of Ecology for the schoolyard.

“International Earth Day” originates from the late 19th century. April 22, 1882, was proclaimed as an official holiday in the state of Nebraska, US and begun to be celebrated as “Tree Day”, the day of planting greenery. In 1970, the name of “Tree Day” was changed to “Earth Day” with the purpose to raise the attention to environmental issues, environmental pollution, and importance of nature. In 2009, UN General Assembly passed a resolution designating 22 April as International Mother Earth Day.
