ExxonMobil adds 9th discovery offshore Guyana

Georgetown, August 31 - Neftegaz.RU. ExxonMobil has made its 9th discovery offshore Guyana at the Hammerhead-1 well, marking its 5th discovery on the Stabroek Block in the past year and proving a new play concept for potential development.

Hammerhead-1 encountered approximately 60 m. of high-quality, oil-bearing sandstone reservoir. The well was safely drilled to 4,225 m. depth in 1,150 m. of water. The Stena Carron drillship began drilling on July 27, 2018.

Hammerhead-1 is located approximately 21 km southwest of the Liza-1 well and follows previous discoveries on the Stabroek Block at Liza, Liza Deep, Payara, Snoek, Turbot, Ranger, Pacora and Longtail. Those previous discoveries led to the announcement of an estimated recoverable resource of more than 4 billion oil-equivalent barrels discovered to date, and the potential for up to 5 floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels producing more than 750,000 barrels per day by 2025.

The Stabroek Block is 26,800 sq. km. ExxonMobil affiliate, Esso Exploration & Production Guyana, is operator and holds 45 % interest in the Stabroek Block. Hess Guyana Exploration Ltd. holds 30 % interest and CNOOC Nexen Petroleum Guyana Limited holds 25 % interest.
