Gastech 2002, the 20th international LNG, LPG natural gas conference and exhibition to be held in Doha in October 2002, will examine worldwide supply and demand with particular attention to developing markets in Asia and resurgence of natural gas and LNG demand in the U.S., conference director Robert Lakey said yesterday.
To be hosted by Qatar Petroleum from October 13 to 16, 2002, the event will held under the patronage of Qatar Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
"The conference would explore what role LPG would play in meeting the new energy demand challenges," Lakey said. He told a Qatari newspaper that expansion of the existing LNG supply is underway or being planned in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Norway, and Trinidad besides Qatar. "We will examine where these new volumes will go," he said.
Lakey said the increasing demand for LNG and natural gas has implications, particularly on infrastructure. It is worth finding out the technological, regulatory or financial obstacles in the way of development of new facilities.
Another question that needs answer is how fast merchant trading of LNG occurs, and who are the leaders and what are the obstacles.
