Seeking to block a contempt finding, Enron Corp sued Wednesday a California Senate panel investigating possible price manipulation in the state's electricity markets. Enron sued the Senate Select Committee to Investigate Price Manipulation of the Wholesale Energy Market in the Sacramento Superior Court. The investigative panel found Enron and Mirant in contempt June 28 for failing to provide documents the committee had subpoenaed.
Enron argued that the committee cannot compel the company to provide the documents without confidentiality agreements. In addition, it argued that its objections to the subpoena were not aired before the contempt finding was made. Enron said it is willing to provide the committee with about 30,000 Calif-based documents once a confidentiality agreement is reached.
