Twenty students of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, Manila, were downed the other day by a gas leak from the nearby main Pandacan oil depot, police said yesterday.
The victims were rushed to various clinics and hospitals in Manila after they vomitted and suffered headaches.
PUP officials suspended the classes the rest of the day and allowed the 15,000 PUP students to go home.
Police said the students felt dizzy before starting to vomit. Other students were able to run out of the campus. Police said the incident started at around 2:30 p.m. the other day.
This was the second gas leak incident in PUP. Last week, dozens of PUP college students were also downed by a similar gas leak.
Police said officials of the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) are now conducting an investigation. The three big oil companies -- Shell, Petron, and Caltex-- have oil storage tanks in the area
