A gas leak in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco forced evacuations of four buildings.
A contractor's backhoe apparently broke a two-inch gas main about 9:20am near the intersection of Union and Leavenworth.
Twenty people in four buildings were evacuated as PG&E crews worked to cap the leak. There was no fire or explosion, and no injuries were reported.
The leak was capped just after noon, and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
