Six days after an explosion rocked a natural gas storage facility near Edmonton, the company said on Saturday it had put out one of two fires caused when ethane leaking from malfunctioning wellheads ignited.
Ethane, a gas byproduct used to make plastics, ignited on Sunday in an explosion at the BP Canada Energy pipeline processing plant.
``Our coordinated team of employees and contractors have performed expertly in controlling this well,'' said Larry Jardine, field incident commander. ``We are also making strong progress on plans to control the product flow to the other well and to bring that fire under control as soon as safely possible.''
