The Vietnam-Laos electricity joint stock Investment and Development Company will build a 250MW hydro-electric power plant on the Se Kong in Laos' southern province of Atopu. The US$273 million plant, built in BOT form, will be operational in 30 years. Ninety percent of the plant's power output is planned to be exported to Vietnam. A 33km transmission line and a 220KV transformer station will also be built to transfer electricity from the plant to the national grid in central Quang Nam province, Vietnam.
