China's Mongolian region is making use of its troublesome sandstorms to produce electricity to facilitate its people and those in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
A windmill power station is under construction at the southern rim of the Tengger Desert in Alax League of Inner Mongolia, with investment from Ningxia, which is adjacent to the desert and the major beneficiary of the project. Named after the Helan Mountain on the border between Inner Mongolia and Ningxia, the wind-driven power station will cover an area of 54 square kilometers and have a total designed installed capacity of 5 million kilowatts, according to Jiang Pengcheng, engineer of the Helan Mountain Wind Power Station.
