Petrochina is likely to build a LNG plant in Hebei's Cao Fei Dian district.
The terminal, which can supply more than 3 million tons of LNG annually, will supplement piped gas supply to Beijing.
To date, Beijing gets its natural gas supply mainly from the first Shaanxi-Beijing line, which is unable to meet demand as it also supplies to other cities.
Beijing's demand for natural gas will grow by an annual rate of 17 percent to 5.8 billion cubic meters in 2008 from 2004, and 8.5 billion cubic meters in 2014, as it switches from coal-produced gas to meet air standards for the Olympics, the Chinese media said.
