Sinopec Starts Refinery Construction

Sinopec, the Chinese petrochemistry giant, yesterday has launched the construction of an oil refinery with an annual crude oil processing capacity of 10 million tons in Qingdao, a port city in East China's Shandong province.

The project is undertaken jointly by the Shanghai-listed Sinopec, Shandong Guotou and Qingdao Guoxin.

A Sinopec official said the Qingdao oil refinery will have 13 sets of main production devices, capable of processing 10 million tons of crude oil a year during the first phase. It will start production in 2007.
