Airbus, the world's second largest commercial plane maker, has won an order from Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana for three new A340-600 aircraft worth a total $450 million at list prices.
The two-aisle, 342-seat planes will be delivered to Spain's largest airline starting next June and will be used on routes from Madrid to Mexico and Buenos Aires, Airbus said in an e-mailed statement.
?The A340-600 will help us to strengthen our leadership on competitive routes to the Americas, and especially to Latin America,? Iberia Chairman Xabier de Irala said in a separate statement.
Airbus and their larger rival Boeing are battling for market share as a decline in orders prompts them to cut output. Boeing Executive Vice President for Sales Toby Bright said this week that Airbus is producing too many aircraft, driving down prices and earnings.
