Singapore plans to create an integrated logistics hub at Jurong Island for service providers to chemical and oil companies based there.
The hub, to be called Banyan, will have its own berths, jetties and other marine facilities to handle bulk liquid and solid chemicals, including hazardous chemicals. Banyan will also provide storage tanking, warehousing, tank filling, maintenance, drumming, testing and waster treatment facilities.
It will also serve as a transshipment hub for oil and chemical break-bulk trade. The ministry is also considering to build an integrated pipe grid at Jurong Island to be linked with shared storage and terminalling facilities. He did not specify when the Banyan project is to be fully completed.
