Hungary eyes Turkish Stream gas deliveries via Bulgaria, Serbia

Belgrade, June 15 - Neftegaz.RU. Hungary's foreign minister Peter Szijjarto said the country's government hopes to start imports of Russian natural gas through Bulgaria and Serbia via the Turkish Stream pipeline.

Hungary hopes that Bulgaria will implement all the necessary investments to deliver the gas onwards to Serbia and then to Hungary and the European network, Szijjarto said after a meeting with Serbian energy minister Aleksandar Antic and Bulgarian energy minister Temenuzhka Petkova in Belgrade on June 14, as seen in a video posted on the website of Serbian news agency Tanjug.

«The new route would be a huge contribution to the safe and secure energy supply to our region and we hope that we will have the support of the EU,» Szijjarto also said.

The Turkish Stream offshore gas pipeline, to stretch for 930 km across the Black Sea from Russia to Turkey, will consist of 2 parallel strings with annual capacity of 15.75 billion cubic metres of gas. One of them is intended for consumers in Turkey, while the 2nd will carry gas to customers in South and Southeast Europe.

The 2nd string willgo via Bulgaria, the government in Sofia said last month following a meeting between Bulgarian prime minister Boyko Borisov and Russian president Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
