EBRD to fund gas interconnection between Bosnia and Croatia

Zagreb, October 22 - Neftegaz.RU. According to the Total Croatia news, he European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved the financing for the preparation of project documentation to connect Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia's gas network at the south interconnector, BH-Gas confirmed on October 19th.

The south interconnector involves building a gas pipeline from Zagvozd in southern Croatia toward Posušje and on to Travnik in Bosnia and Herzegovina with a special pipeline branching off to Mostar.

EBRD approved the funding of the project after a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis confirmed the project's viability and a due diligence audit of BH-Gas. The project will be financed with a grant from the European Union within the Connect programme and USAID has also secured a grant for an environment impact study and general design.

BH-Gas underscored that the international community has identified the significance of the south gas interconnection between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina because it means gas supply security and diversification of natural gas sources and supply directions. Bosnia and Herzegovina is now totally dependent on Russian gas and the only connection to Europe's gas network is across Serbia.
