Text of report by Azerbaijani news agency Turan Baku, 22 August: Thirty five per cent of natural gas from the Azerbaijani gas and transportation system is used to cover the needs of the energy producers, the head of the Azariqaznaql [Azerbaijani gas transportation] department, Nazim Samadzada, told journalists.
He said that the Azariqaz [Azerbaijani gas] closed-type joint- stoke company had supplied 2,237,232,000 cu.m. of natural gas to power producers as of 1 August this year. Of this, 1,765,818,000 cu.m. was imported from Russia, while 471,414,000 cu.m. was produced locally.
Thermoelectric power stations are running on 75 per cent natural gas and 25 per cent fuel oil. After increasing the volume of imported natural gas from 2 to 4bn cu.m. a year this autumn, consumption of natural gas by the Azarenerji [Azerbaijani energy] open-type joint- stock company can be increased from 75 per cent to 90 per cent and fuel oil reduced from 25 per cent to 10 per cent.
Currently, a total of 22m cu.m. of gas is daily supplied to the republic's gas transportation system.
