Bulgargaz engages in the storage, transmission, and public supply of natural gas to customers in Bulgaria.
Bulgargaz was formerly known as Gazosnabdyavane.
The company was founded in 1973 and is headquartered in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Bulgargaz operates as a subsidiary of Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD.
The majority of the gas purchased by Bulgargaz is imported from Russia under long-term take or pay contracts with Gazprom.
In November 2012, Bulgargaz and Gazprom entered a new 10-year gas supply contract with an option, at the discretion of each party, for renegotiation after the sixth year.
The new contract covers gas volumes of 2.8 billion cubic metres per year and the price formula is linked to the prices of oil products.
The remaining approximately 15% of the gas purchased by Bulgargaz comes from a local producer.
Bulgargaz supplies gas to 44 end suppliers and 220 customers directly connected to the transmission network, principally district heating companies and industrial consumers.
Customers request the quantities of gas they require on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
The prices at which Bulgargaz sells gas are regulated by the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (SEWRC).
