Optimist chances to see LNG Azeri transport project to Europe created

Azeri-Bulgarian negotiations on the transport of liquefied gas to Europe are continuing, the press service of SOCAR, the Azerbaijan State Oil company reported. A meeting of the joint working group between SOCAR and Bulgarian companies on the project for transporting liquefied natural gas from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria and on to other European markets was held on Thursday, 11 March in Baku. Representatives of partners in the Shah Deniz consortium took part in the talks which covered the economic feasibility of shipping LNG from Azerbaijan through the Black Sea to Bulgaria and potentially on to other countries. The sides also discussed the technical aspects of the project.

The joint working group was set up in November 2009 on the basis of a memorandum of cooperation in LNG delivery signed between SOCAR and Bulgartransgaz. The group’s next meeting will be held at the end of April 2010 in Sofia.
