The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, or Opec, will likely keep its production quota unchanged when it next meets in October, Libya's top oil official said Sunday.
According to OPEC’s official report, the cartel earned $187 billion from crude exports in the first three months of 2010, or almost double the figure for the same period last year.
OPEC officials on Tuesday appeared undecided on how to respond if oil prices rose definitively above the $70-80 a barrel range they have praised this month, highlighting a looming challenge for the cartel.
OPEC members on Tuesday prepared to announce a freeze in the cartel's oil output ceiling here as crude prices jumped to near 82 dollars.
US dependence on Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for energy is not set to fall in the near future despite focus on renewable energy.
