Fluxys is a Belgium-based company, mainly acting as a natural gas transmission system operator.
The Company also operates the Zeebrugge LNG terminal. Its grid has around 20 entry points, opening the Belgian grid to natural gas flows from the United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands, Russia and all LNG producing countries.
It serves as the crossroads for transit flows of natural gas to the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, France and Southern Europe.
The Company's principal activities include the provision of gas transportation services; transmission system connections; gas storage services; border-to-border gas transmission services, and services for hub gas trading. Its subsidiaries includes Fluxys LNG SA, an operator of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, Guimard NV, Fluxys Deutschland, Flux RE and Hubernator SA, among others.
The company was created in 2001 from the breakup of Distrigas into 2 entities (the other entity has kept the name Distrigas).
Suez held as much as 57.25% of Fluxys shares prior to its 2008 merger with Gaz de France to form GDF Suez now call Engie, but was obligated to reduce its stake to satisfy the concerns of the European Commissioner for Competition.
Engie still retains 44.75% of Fluxys as of July 2008.
